I had a visit this morning with two ladies, Lavonne and Sharon (these are their real names, I got permission), that have never been to our church, but through personal invitations from two Prairielakians and a mailer they decided to contact me to ask some questions. Since I couldn’t reach them by phone I decided to drop by and say hello.
They had a ton of great questions:
Are you a boring speaker?
What kind of music do you play?
Are you friendly?
What about fellowship?
The first one caught me off guard, but I suppose that is a legitimate question. They said they have been to some places that were dead. I promised them we were very much ALIVE! I played a song from my iPhone from the past weekend to clear up any confusion about music then assured them that although some places claim they are friendly, they should have no problems finding a bunch of authentic and friendly people this weekend. After we finished praying they said they would be at Hoover this weekend!
Driving back I thought, “Did I over commit? Who will they meet first? Will it be a guy on the parking team or someone at the connection desk? Will our guests feel like there is something different here?”
And so I wait five more days to find out what Lavonne and Sharon think…

Ron, you are far from boring. I'll be praying for these gals. Keep pointing!

1) NO!
2) Awesome music!
3) You betcha!
4) We like it!
Seriously though, I had wondered about fellowship too... does PLC-Waterloo have a plan for small groups - ie, will we do this on our own or with CF? We need to get in one, so I have been thinking about that!
