In just over a month, we will hold our first service at Hoover Middle School!  We have been waiting for quite awhile to officially begin in Waterloo, but now it is time!  I know many of you have been looking for your first Waterloo invite opportunity,  THIS IS IT!

Sunday, March 28 (Palm Sunday) at 11:00 am

Our hope is to "practice" once in our new environment prior to Easter.  So make sure to mark your calendars for this big change.

Also, we are trying to see if we can meet Saturday, March 27 at Hoover to have a huge Waterloo Campus Celebration (practice run and night of worship).  More details to follow.  Just wanted to give you the news hot off the press this afternoon!

Our First Communion...and Sex

I bet that I have you attention, eh!  Now that we are meeting in a different space, it is sometimes important to remind ourselves of things that will stay the same, including communion and our annual PG-13 rated message on sex.  This weekend come prepared to take communion together for the first time as Prairie Lakes Church Waterloo and make sure to drop off the kids at their perspective areas so we can talk about wrecking your sex!

5 Ways to Wreck Your Kids

This past weekend it became clear that we all make mistakes as parents. I was encouraged to think that most of the stuff I have done so far isn’t life scarring and everything can be overcome by the grace of God! With that being said, we have been challenged to look at five areas that can wreck our kids:

1. Let someone else be responsible. Parents are primary spiritual caregivers, which means we can’t abdicate our divine calling and responsibility to anyone else, including church programs!


2. Let them make their own rules. Sometimes we view them as little princesses and princes and we let them rule instead of God. Kids are not our buddies and bff’s, they are gifts we are helping prepare for the world.


3. Rob them of God’s more difficult lessons. As hard as it is, we cannot shield them from all hard and hurtful things. God teaches through the pain. Be prayed up so you will know when to let them hit their nose and when not to. That is parental discernment.


4. Parent out of anger. Why did Paul say, “Don’t anger” and not discourage? Pamper? Abuse? Anger arises against authority and devours other emotions. Look at Ephesians 4:31-5:2.


5. Make Kingdom living a low priority. If we worry more about our kids athletic, academic, romantic progress rather than spiritual progress then God, Kingdom and Church become low priority and virtually non-essential for the future.

It is too hard to quantify sheer awesomeness, but if you asked me how things went for our first weekend, that is what I would say!  It felt like family.  We laughed together, we worshiped together and we entered into moments with God together.  All the things you could possibly prepare/not prepare for, all the things you pray for, it all came together!  It was sheer awesomeness!  If you want to sneak a peek of what we experienced, take a look...

First Baptist Church in Waterloo has been declaring that certainty for many years.  Although they have seen many changes in their neighborhood, they consistently want to reach out to those in need.

FBC's vision to reach their neighbors, friends and co-workers is our vision too!  We want to share their burden for the lost in Waterloo, their call to go and make disciples, AND their location on the corner of 4th and Baltimore.

Our desire is for our two churches to continue to have their own unique expressions of worship, while sharing the responsibility to reach those in Waterloo who have not yet stepped over the faith line.

Would you pray specifically that the leadership teams from First Baptist Church and Prairie Lakes Church would take bold and courageous steps?  Steps toward honoring God and partnering to make it impossible to get to Hell from that corner, or for that matter, any corner in Waterloo!
